Summer is the perfect time to capture vibrant, sun-drenched photos that exude warmth and joy. As a photographer, I want to ensure that my clients are well-prepared and comfortable during their photo sessions so that we can create stunning images together. It is also fun to think outside of the box, capturing favorite summer activities your family likes to do, like beach outings, barbecues, or family vacations.
Here are some essential tips to help you get ready for your summer photo shoot and make the most out of the experience.
1. Choose the Right Time of Day
Timing is crucial for outdoor summer photography. The best times to shoot are during the "golden hours," which are the first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset. During these times, the lighting is soft and flattering, reducing harsh shadows and giving your photos a warm, golden glow. Midday sun can be too intense and create unflattering shadows, so if a midday session is unavoidable, we'll find shaded areas to soften the light. Along with my lighting system to help even out the harsh sunlight.
2. Dress for the Season
When selecting your outfits, consider the summer heat and choose light, breathable fabrics that will keep you cool and comfortable. Flowing dresses, lightweight shirts, and casual shorts are great options. Opt for solid colors or simple patterns to avoid clashing with the natural surroundings. It's also wise to bring a few outfit options to add variety to your photos. Don’t forget to coordinate your outfits with the entire group, ensuring a harmonious look without being too matchy-matchy.
3. Stay Hydrated and Comfortable
Summer temperatures can be quite high, so it's essential to stay hydrated. Bring plenty of water, and consider packing some snacks to keep your energy levels up. Sunscreen is also a must to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. If you have young children or pets included in the session, bring along their favorite toys or treats to keep them happy and engaged. Comfortable footwear is also important, especially if we’ll be walking or standing for extended periods.
As your photographer, I’m here to guide you through the process and capture the magic of your summer moments. With a little preparation, we can create photos that you’ll cherish for years to come. Remember, the key to a successful photo session is to relax, have fun, and let your natural beauty shine through!
